Charlie Crist asked the Small Business Administration on Tuesday to declare a disaster for Port range residents affected by Friday’s tornado. Crist toured the damaged neighborhoods Monday and spoke with affected residents. “I had the opportunity to see firsthand the compassion and cooperative spirit of Volusia County’s residents as they once again helped their neighbors recover from a disaster” Crist was quoted as saying in a news release. A disaster declaration from the SBA would make low-interest loans available to help residents rebuild their homes. Preliminary damage assessments conducted jointly by the Florida Division of Emergency Management the SBA and the Federal Emergency Management Agency indicated 140 homes sustained damage more than the 25 required to trigger the SBA loans.
