- The wide variety of new ways to communicate haven’t made relaying severe weather warnings any more effective the National Weather Service said just more complicated. For that reason and due to past confusion the weather service will once again not conduct a statewide tornado drill during Severe Weather Week. John Robinson who is the warning coordination meteorologist for the weather service office in North Little Rock said the agency has not had an Arkansas-wide drill in five years. “The last time we did one of these drills we got complaints from police departments and cities around Arkansas saying they didn’t know we were doing the drill” Robinson said. People dragged mattresses into bathrooms and holed themselves up in basements only to realize there was no tornado he said. There was also confusion among cities and counties with some sounding their tornado sirens and others not.

The pork bill signed Tuesday spreads your money all over the country but the AP reported Thursday that it doesn’t allocate a single penny to fixing leftover damage from Hurricane Katrina. Friday the AP reports that President bama is dispatching two Cabinet secretaries to tour the Gulf Coast region.

When Plan II senior Travis Cosban began applying to medical school in May the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston was his first choice. “I want to go into plastics and they have the highest [residency] match rates for plastics departments out of every school in Texas” Cosban said. “They also have Shriners Hospital the burn center and that’s the main reason I wanted to go there. ”Five months later Cosban said he will be part of the first freshman class at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center’s new campus in El Paso.
