And the governor’s mansion burned a mystery that remains unsolved. But it was a deadly series of hurricanes climaxing with a Texas-sized storm named Ike that dominated state news like no other story in 2008. In retrospect Dolly Edouard and Gustav seemed like warm-up acts to Hurricane Ike. Though the storm came and went in far less than 24 hours this was no one-day story. Ike wiped out coastal towns damaged stadiums and skyscrapers killed dozens of Texans caused billions in property damage and led to thousands losing their jobs. But it wasn’t the only story that led newscasts made headlines or received clicks in 2008. The state ran out of time to execute a death row inmate whose case is now under review.

pos {float:right;margin-left: 5px;width: 300px;}National Weather Service forecasters said Friday that a severe storm that destroyed and damaged several homes in this northern Alabama town about 3:30 PM Christmas Eve was an EF-1 tornado. Forecasters said that while rare tornadoes around Christmas sometimes occur. Residents of rural Limestone County had no warning that a possible tornado would strike. Despite the fact that there were no warnings no injuries have been reported. At its peak the tornado was approximately 50-yards wide and stayed on the ground for just 1. According to emergency managers two mobile homes and farm buildings.

The Texas General Land ffice announced Dec. 16 it signed contracts with two land-clearance companies to remove debris created by Hurricane Ike’s Sept. A spokesman said cleanup could run until March. Surfside Beach Public Works Director Pete Gutierrez doubted all those steps could be completed before the Jan.

Concert to benefit hurricane victims

Although he no longer resides there he has returned to Galveston County after Hurricane Ike to fill dual-roles: as a journalist for his faith-based newspaper and as a headliner for today’s Ike Benefit Concert at Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church in Hitchcock. “I publish The Gospel Truth News so I’ve been in the area traveling around and helping different families pastors and churches after Ike” he said. “Basically my statement to children and everybody is to continue to work together and to rebuild Galveston. Children don’t understand not being in their home but grownups need to be strong in their faith and help and inspire their kids in spite of the catastrophe.

Metro Placed In Tornado Watch Until 5 AM
