ASHLAND — They came in waves each wave seemingly bigger faster and more aggressive than the one before. If the North Medford boys basketball team had a point to prove Saturday afternoon it was that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Controlling the backboards and using a variety of defenses to cause chaos the undefeated and seventh-ranked Black Tornado (4-0) ran away from injured and undermanned Ashland 74-44 in a nonconference game at McNeal Pavilion on the Southern regon University campus. “We’ve got a lot of athletes guys who can score the basketball and play pretty good defense” North Medford coach Scott Plankenhorn said after 10 different Tornado players scored in the contest. Jordan Ellis led all scorers with 13 points but seven North players tallied at least seven. The Tornado bench outscored its Ashland counterparts 43-14. “You can tell tonight how deep we are” said North Medford senior Josh Pecktol who scored all seven of his points in the first half to stake the Tornado to a lead before foul trouble kept him sidelined for much of the third and fourth quarters.
