At least 4000 customers lost power in the storms Monday. Survey teams from the National Weather Service offices in Fort Worth believe two probable tornadoes may have torn through the area near Southmayd and Denison — about 70 miles north of Dallas. Damage found in Denison may have been caused by an EF1 tornado on the Enhanced Fujita Scale meaning winds of 86 mph to 110 mph were possible meteorologist Jessica Schultz said. Another EF1 tornado appeared to strike in Southmayd about 13 miles southwest of Denison she said. Downbursts may have caused straight line wind damage in other parts of the county she said. One person in the Collinsville area suffered minor injuries in the violent weather late Monday authorities said.

on Tuesday reported a 6 percent decline in fiscal third-quarter profit driven by damages and costs associated with Hurricane Ike. The Cincinnati-based grocer said it earned $237. 7 million or 36 cents a share in the quarter ended Nov. 8 million or 37 cents a share in the same period a year ago.

The pace of requests for help has slowed dramatically since the immediate aftermath of the hurricane. But FEMA spokesman David Riedman said requests have picked up in the past week as the deadline loomed. Requests for FEMA assistance normally must be received within 60 days of a disaster Riedman said but the application period was extended to 90 days for Ike. The Harris County Housing Authority has produced a video to help guide storm victims through the process of seeking assistance from FEMA the Small Business Administration and other agencies. “Even there don’t look for anything to accumulate. “We’re not looking for any travel problems. “Butts plans to travel today to near Dixie Inn where a reported tornado damaged a dozen homes and downed 50 to 60 trees in a concentrated area around Goodwill and Fuller roads Webster Sheriff Gary Sexton said. The first priority will be to determine if tornadoes are responsible Butts said. If so he said the next step will be to judge how powerful each was. A Webster resident reported seeing the tornado dip there shortly before noon Tuesday Sexton said adding that the twisted and uprooted trees convinced him too. The sheriff said he followed the path of destruction for about a half-mile from the Goodwill Road area and saw timber damage but nothing more.

Motorcycle rally delayed by Ike returns to Galveston

html GALVESTON — A Hurricane Ike-delayed motorcycle event is rolling along with a Rally to Rebuild Galveston theme. Some streets in Galveston were being closed today to prepare for the Lone Star Rally 2008. The group’s Web site says its offices were destroyed in the Sept. The event originally planned for early November will go on Thursday through Sunday.
