- It took a tornado to convince Sally Lane that it’s probably time to move away from the home she loved. Before Saturday’s mammoth twister splintered her two-bedroom house, Lane, 71, had sworn to live in this small former mining town until she died. She stood steadfastly even as studies showed that high levels of lead were in residents’ blood and that the mine shafts deep under her home were collapsing and threatening to swallow her block. “I always said I wasn’t going to move,” Lane said Monday as she picked through muddied photo albums and other remnants of her home. “But I guess the Lord showed me I am… “But I guess the Lord showed me I am. It’s hard to argue with him. “The tornado killed six residents of Picher and destroyed 90 of its homes. Other tornadoes struck Missouri and Georgia. A total of 22 people were killed in the three states. Lane, a widow, survived unhurt, but she said she will probably move. Picher, 100 miles northeast of Tulsa, has had a hard life.
