Guichard Guyander posted first and third placings in yesterday's two races to improve from fifth overall. He now have 17 points two ahead of the previous leader Germany's Roland Gaebler and Gunnar Struckman. The Germany finished fourth and ninth today to stay four points ahead of Mitch Booth and Pim Nieuwenhuis of the Netherlands. Canadians Oskar Johansson and Kevin Stittle also made good progress finishing third and first to move from eighth overall to fourth.

The new homes are for thosewho lost theirs as a result of Hurricane Katrina. A press conferenceand groundbreaking ceremony will be held today at 10:30 A. toannounce the Riggios’ first pilot project. The pilot will build 20wind-resistant homes in the Gentilly neighborhood known as PlanningDistrict 6 in Orleans Parish… Bernard Avenue (corner of Mandolin Street) inNew Orleans. Their approach has been to create a neighborhood forProject Home Again that draws on culturally significant architecturaldetailing climate specific passive design strategies a landscape thatis both amenity and infrastructure and flexible comfortable livingspaces for the 20 families coming back home. The hurricane-resistant homes have been designed to integrateinto the style of the neighborhood and the city. The homes willwithstand winds in excess of 130 miles per hour and will be elevated toat least six feet. They will incorporate green building materials and techniquesincluding non-toxic termite and mold-resistant materialspassive solar design and natural ventilation strategies to takeadvantage of prevailing breezes sunlight and shading to reduce theneed for heating and cooling solar thermal panels for hot waterreclaimed architectural elements from deconstructed homes in NewOrleans and numerous other green and energy efficiency features. “By redeveloping a single neighborhood that is only roughly 21percent re-occupied we hope this pilot serves as a model for recoveryand other redevelopment in New Orleans. We chose Gentilly because it isa great neighborhood where people of different ethnic economic andcultural backgrounds choose to live together” said Riggio.

Using the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Hurricane Hunters meteorologists are getting a better understanding of the dynamics of Pacific storms. With very few monitoring sites in the middle of the Pacific the information is vital to understanding how storms will affect Oregon and the West Coast. KATU was invited along for a ride that took us 1200 miles off the Pacific Coast to collect raw data from a storm system. The Pricipal Race Officer took the competitors out onto the water for a start at 1300hrs while there was 7kts or more of breeze from a southerly direction in parts of the race course in others it was down to less than 2kts. Around the Hauraki Gulf there was up to 14kts of wind from the south west (offshore direction) but it did not reach the competitors. At 1400hrs the PRO sent the competitors ashore to wait for the wind’s arrival however the breeze did not materialise and at 1630hrs racing was called off for the day. Tomorrow Thursday was scheduled as a rest day however it will now be used for racing with the first of two races scheduled to get underway at 1300hrs.
