25 a Tornado bus struck a pickup and a tractor-trailer killing the pickup driver and three people on the bus. Federal investigators determined the driver had exceeded the number of driving hours allowed and listed the presence of a co-driver when there was none. The company has been the subject of several reviews by the federal agency since 2001 and has been fined more than $63000 for falsifying records and safety violations uncovered during routine inspections. Tornado’s Web site is in English and Spanish and touts its routes to Mexico. It also advertises locations in Georgia North Carolina Illinois Florida Tennessee and Texas… The order allowed vehicles to continue to their next scheduled stop so passengers could be safely accommodated but no additional passengers could be loaded. Tornado is at least the second Texas-based bus company ordered shut down since 2005. Federal regulators shut down Global Limo after a 2005 bus fire killed 23 nursing home patients fleeing Hurricane Rita. Global Limo’s owner was convicted last year of poorly managing his fleet and not requiring drivers to fill out vehicle inspection reports. None of the charges were directly related to the deadly bus fire. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Hurricane Preparedness Expo comes to Port St. Lucie

Lucie is looking for sponsors and vendors to help promote the Second Annual Hurricane Preparedness Expo to be put on at the Port St. Lucie Community Center on May 24. The event will give residents a wealth of information on how to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season and where to get assistance after the storm has passed.
