“I guess I was being what you call snoopy” Rogers said. He saw what hundreds of outsiders before him saw. A town obliterated by a May tornado. Only a few buildings left standing. City business conducted out of trailers because even City Hall was gone. But he also saw church youth groups helping clear debris and rebuild homes… “Words just can’t describe it” said Matt Deighton volunteer coordinator with the South Central Kansas Tornado Recovery Organization. “It makes me get a little soft. A group of young people from Mississippi — victims of Hurricane Katrina — drove all the way to Kansas in the summer just to provide a crawfish feed for the folks in Greensburg. On July 4 the PigMasters — a group of barbecuers from North Carolina — hosted a reunion for all the displaced residents and roasted 10 pigs for the town. A high school student from Enterprise Ala. who survived a tornado that ripped apart his high school and killed eight students drove to Greensburg with a load of 500 or so books because he read that the Kansas school lost its library. Getting the books for Greensburg was his Eagle Scout project.

It is the national animal of Bangladesh Bangladesh is home to the largest mangrove forest in the world the Sundarbans. The majestic forest is home to hundreds of species. But now environmentalists and biodiversity experts fear immense loss to the Sundarbans and its wildlife as the brunt of hurricane Sidr was borne sharply by the delicate forest. Cyclone Sidr ripped through the southwestern coast on November 15 2007 killing about 3300 people. It demolished houses crops vegetables and trees alike along its trail of devastation over an area of thousands of square kilometers. With a ferocious wind Sidr hit the eastern parts of the forest especially Chandpai range including Kochikhali Kotka Hiron Point and Dublarchar leaving a trail of severe devastation.

After Hurricane Katrina destroyed his New Orleans home and restaurant Crump traveled to Atlanta then Daytona Beach Fla. A chance encounter with a hotel guest who smelled Crump’s cooking lured him to Clarksburg a town of 17000 in a state he’d barely heard of. He recalls driving through Virginia lost in the dark. Shortly after a trooper told him he needed West Virginia the next state over he started seeing mountains. “I thought ‘Oh my God what have I gotten myself into?’ ” he remembers with a laugh.
