WIBW – Dec 24, 2007
But as I was standing there watching in total shock it made a turn to the north then passed our house about a half mile from us and still took out about a half mile of trees and was headed towards Lyndon. It did get a lot smaller as it moved to the northeast but I have not been the same since. I think it?s truly handsome. Our original architect Greg Huddy recommended a metal roof for its looks and its durability ? it?s designed to last for many many years. It?s also a smart choice for those of us living in hurricane country. According to Kevin Donohue the former Anna Maria building inspector who works for John the Federal Emergency Management Agency conducted an analysis of roof damage after Hurricane Charley which roared across Florida in 2004. The agency report concluded that metal roofs were much less likely to sustain damage than other types of roofs as there are no shingles for the wind to lift and while flying debris may dent the metal it won?t pierce the roof. I hope a nasty hurricane never gives us the chance to test the mettle of our roof ? I would just like to enjoy how well it looks and the way it sounds when it rains… According to Kevin Donohue the former Anna Maria building inspector who works for John the Federal Emergency Management Agency conducted an analysis of roof damage after Hurricane Charley which roared across Florida in 2004. Key SC insurance figures to remain mystery for a while
Charleston Post Courier – Dec 24, 2007
Those were the years of course when coastal insurance premiums in the state skyrocketed and some of the nation’s largest insurance companies combined dropped close to 20000 customers many of whom were long-time policyholders who barely had made a claim in two decades or more. The meltdown which saw premiums increase by a whopping 800 percent in some cases prompted the state Legislature to take action this summer by passing the wide-reaching Omnibus Coastal Property Insurance Reform Act. Those measures included tax deductions for the creation of hurricane savings accounts income tax credits for the purchase of building supplies to make homes more resistant to hurricane damage and a grants program to help pay for some of those upgrades. NAIC spokeswoman Vanessa Sink told me last week that publishing the data any sooner is almost impossible. All 50 states plus the District of Columbia have to report their numbers at the start of the following year. The data then is checked compiled verified and checked again. It’s a long process she said.
