A light rain fell over much of the county all evening. He says the pattern of damage is not consistent with a tornado. “Because of the broad nature it was highly unlikely to be the result of a tornado” he said. “What I’d usually expect to see from tornado damage is a very narrow path of very intense damage. “But this was a very broad area of damage so I’d expect that all the damage was a result of a thunderstorm’s downburst. Peter Webb from the bureau says a field examination will be conducted in the area today. He says it will be looking for distinctive clues to confirm that it was a tornado. “It’s not so much a track that it leaves on the ground but rather from inspecting the damage that occurred yesterday and the thunderstorms yesterday afternoon we can make some assertion whether it was resulting from a tornado or from just strong down force winds that you can generate out of thunderstorms” he said. Locals and 11 emergency services crews will continue the mop-up this morning.

Officials said the tornado touched down about 9 a. in the Heuck's Retreat community. There was no immediate word on the condition of the injured person. Lincoln County civil defense director Clifford Galey contacted by the Brookhaven Daily Leader confirmed that at least two mobile homes had been destroyed.
