Brouwer and Godefroide enter 2008 Tornado Worlds
Sail World – Nov 25, 2007
She and Godefroide team d up in the Tormado after the Europe was dropped from the 2008 Olympics and replaced with the Laser Radial. Godefroid formerly sailed a Finn and finished seventh at Sydney 2000 and in Athens and won Silver at the 1996 Games in Savannah. This crew have trained in New Zealand waters previously in the Tornado in previous seasons and will be one of the favorites for the World title. Ironically at the time when a mixed gender crew has turned in a podium finish in a world championship in an Open Olympic class the ISAF Council elected in early November to drop the multihull event from the 2012 Olympics. The about turn by the ISAF Council has come in for widspread criticsm from the sailing community particulary Under an IOC directive ISAF is required to promote a greater participation by women in Olympic sailing and has to meet certain participation quotas. As part of a double irony Brouwer is a member of the ISAF Events Committee which voted for the retention of the multihull event as part of its recommended Olympic events to the ISAF Council. However in a surprise move the ISAF Council voted to drop the Multihull event substituting a Mens Keelboat instead and potentially ending the Olympic career beyond 2008 of one of the rising stars of wolrd sailing.

Shoo-in turns into shootout for Tulsa
Tulsa World (subscription) – Nov 25, 2007
HOUSTON — Tulsa was on the brink of collapse at midseason when it got a miracle victory over SMU. The Golden Hurricane did not need a miracle at lowly Rice on Saturday. Against the Owls one of college football’s most consistent losers over the last 50 years all TU needed was to win a scoring fest to get a share of the Conference USA West Division title and a spot in the C-USA championship game. But in this era of wide-open offense and bizarre games nothing comes easily. Rice hung around with heavily favored Tulsa well into the fourth quarter matching TU’s two late touchdowns before the Golden Hurricane hung on. “It looked pretty to me” said TU coach Todd Graham… HOUSTON — Tulsa was on the brink of collapse at midseason when it got a miracle victory over SMU.
