It isn’t enough that the relief effort by FEMA has been marked by inefficiency corruption and wastefulness. The the services supplies and contract bids needed for the refugees have been purchased at inordinately high prices and in many cases have not even been provided due to the lack of oversight exercised in the situation. Now the horribly unfortunate Hurricane Katrina victims utilizing FEMA trailers are at great health risk being exposed to large amounts of a known carcinogen. It is high time that this shameful progression be halted. Hurricane Katrina victims should get the attention and support they so greatly deserve. The first step in this process should be to force FEMA to allow federal scientists into their trailers along the Gulf Coast so that the situation can be treated as what it is: a health crisis. Editorial: Thankfully a quiet hurricane season
Naples Daily News – Naples Daily News – Nov 19, 2007
That would be thankfulness for another blissfully calm hurricane season. Only two years ago we were giving thanks for damage not being worse and for the inspirational teamwork in the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma. Three years ago we were invoking such sentiments about Charley. Last year we gave thanks for a quiet season and this one about to end has been even more so. If only every season were pardon the expression such a breeze.
