left Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego on Friday for another shelter the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Above right evacuees from Hurricane Katrina gathered outside the Louisiana Superdome in 2005… There is no doubt that state and local officials were partly to blame for the slow and inefficient response to Hurricane Katrina. And people on all sides of the hurricane vs. wildfires debate agree the storm which put nearly an entire city under water flooding evacuation routes and knocking out vital communications links was a disaster of far greater magnitude and thus California and New Orleans cannot be compared. Yet the president drew the contrast on Thursday in California when appearing with Gov.

Rabbits grind out win at Hurricane
Deseret News – Oct 27, 2007
That was how senior defensive end Jaren Jeffery described the play that ultimately earned visiting Delta High School a hard-fought 6-0 victory over Hurricane’s Tigers Friday night in the first round of the state 3A playoffs. After a scoreless first half that saw both teams squander scoring opportunities The Tigers took the ball on their initial second half possession at midfield and proceeded to call Gordie Dotson’s number on seven of the first eight plays of the drive including a key 5-yard gain on 4th-and-3 that gave Hurricane a first down on the Rabbits’ 13 yard-line. Four plays later The Tigers faced another 4th and short this time from the 4-yard-line. That’s where Jeffery comes in… ” “We have to cheat and scratch and fight every week because we’re out-manned and out-sized but I’m proud of this group. Both teams had scoring chances but defenses in this game seem to make a habit of rising to the occasion. Hurricane briefly had the ball inside thr Rabbits’ 5-yard line on a Jase Langston completion to end Corey Hinton only to see the receiver fumble the ball away. Delta had offensive moments of its own driving from their own 36-yard line to Hurricane’s 10 on its opening drive of the game only to get stopped by the Tigers. The Tigers made a gallant effort at the end taking possession with just over 2 minutes remaining after Delta ran off more than seven minutes off the clock with a time-consuming drive that ended with a missed 45-yard field goal by Eliason. Langston quickly hit on 4-of-5 pass attempts to get Hurricane past midfield with just over a minute remaining but three straight incompletions ended the Tigers’ last ditch effort. Dotson one of the state’s top runners was a bright spot for Tigers gaining 92 of Hurricane’s 202 offensive yards in 18 carries.
