Birdshooting a travesty after Hurricane Dean
Jamaica Gleaner – Sep 29, 2007
After the passing of Hurricane Ivan PEPA under the very able direction of its current president Captain John Lamey organised a rehabilitation project for the regeneration of the badly-depleted bird population of the parish with the assistance of the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica schools and youth groups across the parish. I would have thought that this is what NEPA would have been doing after Hurricane Dean not organising their further extinction. I wonder who conducted those nebulous “studies” that allowed this travesty to take place. What were their credentials? What were their motives?Birds suffer enormously from hurricanes and the losses are inevitably severe. Those that survive are disoriented and storm-weary as they struggle to survive amid defoliated trees destroyed nesting areas loss of protective cover and reduced feeding trees.

Snow Canyon’s Adam Timo rushed for 240 yards including four touchdowns in the first half as the Warriors defeated the Hurricane Tigers 49-29 in their first Region 9 matchup since Snow’s move to class 4A. The Tigers couldn’t find him — or stop him — as Timo rushed for 35- 16- 19- and 24-yard touchdowns in an otherwise close game. Four of five Hurricane turnovers combined with several key frustrating penalties led to Snow Canyon scores. Hurricane spotted Snow Canyon 21 points early in the game managing only one offensive play — a fumble at its own 30 — in its first two possessions. After the Warriors took the opening drive 70 yards in 10 plays capped by a magnificent 35-yard Timo touchdown run including two open-field straight-arms the Tigers fumbled on the kickoff at their own 30. Four plays later a Timo 6-yard touchdown was called back on a holding penalty… The Tigers couldn’t find him — or stop him — as Timo rushed for 35- 16- 19- and 24-yard touchdowns in an otherwise close game. Unusual tornado hits Lebanon
kgw.com – Sep 29, 2007
– A tornado hit just north of the Linn County town of Lebanon early Friday night. Weather officials say the tornado began as a funnel cloud and touched down briefly in Lebanon damaging several barns and roofs and uprooting several trees. The funnel cloud was active for about a half hour but the tornado was categorized as an F-zero. That’s the weakest classification according to National Weather Service meteorologist Miles Higa. Tornados are a rare event in Oregon and form when vertical wind speed changes.
