Brent oil rises to new record peak on tornado warning in Florida…

‘There’s been a tornado warning in the states on the eastern Florida panhandle so that’s firming up crude’ said MF Global trader Robert Laughlin. Last night severe thunderstorms barrelled through central Florida resulting in at least one tornado. Press reports said the storms were part of a severe tropical weather system crossing the state into the US Gulf of Mexico. Yesterday both New York crude and Brent crude contracts rose to fresh record peaks on fears over the tropical disturbance which is now widely expected to be upgraded to a storm. Forecasters expect it will make landfall this weekend over Alabama Mississippi and Louisiana.

The wind picked up immensely within seconds. The storm caused much less damage than the tornadoes that hit the same area in February killing 21 people and destroying hundreds of homes in Lake Sumter and Volusia counties. The storms were part of a low pressure system centered off Florida’s Gulf Coast that could strengthen and bring rain and tropical storm-force wind along parts of the coast as early as Friday the National Hurricane Center said. In Louisiana the governor declared a state of emergency late Thursday putting the National Guard on alert and school buses ambulances and evacuation shelter workers on standby. Oil industry workers have left five production platforms in the gulf and three drilling rigs have been evacuated according to the federal Minerals Management Service. In Mississippi officials in coastal Hancock County handed out sandbags.

Emergency officers planned to meet Friday to assess Ivo’s progression. The area was hit Sept. 4 by Hurricane Henriette which killed 10 people including two Japanese tourists and destroyed about 2000 homes.

We’ll have that and a whole lot more for you this morning. KIRAN CHETRY CNN ANCHOR AMERICAN MORNING: That’s right it may be worth it but is it as fun? Is your life as fun? We’re starting out with some extreme weather doing some serious damage in central Florida. There are reports of at least one tornado touching down overnight this Lake County. Here are some of the images coming in of the damage especially in the town of Eustis. This is north of Orlando. This twister tossed an RV on top of a car. Witnesses say as many as 20 homes were destroyed many others sustaining severe damage… You see that red box go off your screen. Watching that area in the Gulf of Mexico because that could very well spin up into a tropical storm. Had a hurricane hunter aircraft ran in there yesterday. They said it’s not tropical yet but very warm waters there. Have another plane headed there right now. We’ll hear back from them in the next hour or two to see what’s going on. But it’s very close to land.

Radar indicated a tornado spun off from a storm system that crossed through the state before spilling into the Gulf of Mexico according to the National Weather Service.
