State Farm has received thousands of responses from these policyholders is processing their claim re-evaluation requests and already at this early stage has made offers totaling more than $10 million. The terms of the MID program mirrors the reevaluation program that we had hoped to accomplish through the Woullard settlement. It is working and we will be providing you with a status report in the days ahead. It is completely voluntary and State Farm receives no release until a policyholder accepts the settlement offer.
Fort Myers selected for state-run special needs hurricane shelter
Naples Daily News – Naples Daily News – Jun 14, 2007
The Gulf Coast Center facility which is in rural east Fort Myers will give refuge to people with special needs before during and after hurricanes. It?s one of three large special-needs shelters to be run by the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities… Administrator Michael S. Mayfield said the facility currently houses 165 developmentally disabled residents but the 300000 square-foot facility could hold many more in case of an emergency. During Hurricane Charley in 2004 Mayfield said many residents stayed at the center and the grounds suffered minimal damage. The facility lost power but because of its generators residents were able to keep electricity and air conditioning. “In most situations it’s the safest place for them” Mayfield said. Mohs said officials are hoping the shelters will be ready in time for the next threatening storm this hurricane season which began on June 1. She stressed the high-capacity shelters are in addition to smaller special-needs shelters already in most Florida cities.
