- Luck rode with the tornado that swept through a portion of Claiborne County on Thursday night. All Rights Reserved… He believes a second rush of wind blew just enough of the debris offhim so he could crawl out and start heading toward his father’shouse. But his father Glen Gambrel wonders if something even moremiraculous occurred. “I wonder if the tornado didn’t pick him up and then set him down”Glen Gambrel said. “I don’t see how else he could have got out fromunder all that. Glen Gambrel who is familiar with first aid through work with theRed Cross found his son “soaking wet and muddy” and looked after himuntil rescue workers arrived. Anthony Gambrel was treated at a localhospital and is recovering at his father’s house. The storm struck the Barren Creek Road area about a half-milesouthwest of New Tazewell shortly after 8 p.

Time Warner Cable and radio station KEPS both subscribe to the weather service’s Emergency Alert System. Managers at both outlets said they never received the two tornado warnings. The broadcast failure possibly left residents even more unprepared. Neither Eagle Pass nor its twin Mexican city of Piedras Negras had a siren warning system urging people to evacuate or take shelter. A spokesman for the Federal Communications Commission said the agency will look into the alleged alert failure.
