Two empty schools in Eagle Pass Rosita Valley Elementary and the kindergarten next door the Rosita Valley Literacy Academy were destroyed said Lalo Trevino assistant superintendent for the school district. Trevino said the tornado “completely wiped out two of our subdivisions” Los Guajillos and Rosita Valley about five miles from town. It killed at least seven people. Five were from one family whose mobile home was pick up and slammed into a nearby school. Three people were killed by the same storm almost 90 others hurt; 300 homes were damaged there… They have been left homeless by this storm as search teams and crews continue to work through these areas and through these neighborhoods trying to clean up whatever they can. HARRIS: At the top this morning people in Southwest Texas waking up and getting a good look at what used to be — after a deadly storm — what used to be an elementary school what used to be more than 20 homes. Now piles of mangled wires metal and debris. The storm possibly a tornado killed at least six people in and around the town of Eagle Pass. Four people including a small child died in a single home. And there was also devastation across the border in Mexico. It is reported three people were killed there more than 120 others hurt. In an article published in the journal Forest Ecology and Management John Stanturf Scott Goodrick and Ken utcalt from the Forest Service Southern Research Station (SRS) unit in Athens GA report the results of a case study based on the effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The past 10 hurricane seasons have been the most active on record with climatologists predicting that heightened activity could continue for another 10 to 40 years. In early April Colorado State University meteorologists predicted a very active 2007 hurricane season for the Atlantic coast with 17 named storms including 5 major hurricanes. The analysis included a 74 percent probability of a major hurricane hitting the U. coast before the season ends on November 30… The past 10 hurricane seasons have been the most active on record with climatologists predicting that heightened activity could continue for another 10 to 40 years. In September 2004 Cayman suffered damage at the hands of Hurricane Ivan amounting to US$3. 4 billion or 138 percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) according to the Economic Commission for Latin and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
