write(“flashcontent”);It was supposed to increase the number of homes protected against hurricanes. But the slow pace of the state's My Safe Florida Home program is having an opposite unintended effect: Fewer homeowners than normal are seeking to strengthen their homes some because they're waiting for the state's promise of up to $5000 in grant money. Contractors and manufacturers of hurricane shutters windows and doors say the lure of government assistance is leading consumers to hold off on making improvements. That's causing an unusual drop in sales. "It's a joke. It's a total joke in this industry" said Mark Wark of MBP Hurricane Preparedness in Largo. Kansas: Plans for 650-foot tornado monument move ahead on funding…
Joplin Globe – Mar 23, 2007
”Tentatively called Kansas Landmark Tower the project is the brainchild of Tom verby president of a nonprofit development company called Avenue Area Inc. that works to improve and promote downtown Kansas City Kan. verby originally pictured the tornado monument being built in Kansas City Kan. But since he began working on it more than four years ago the project has found a home in the nearby Wyandotte County city of Edwardsville. The tower topped by a 350-foot antenna that would bring its total height to 1000 feet would be built just across Interstate 70 from Kansas Speedway. Current plans show the tower built of reinforced concrete surrounded by a funnel-shaped steel wrapping. A 105-acre development at the base would include a working farm; a weather center; an education center; and 100000 square feet of retail and entertainment space… Current plans show the tower built of reinforced concrete surrounded by a funnel-shaped steel wrapping. A 105-acre development at the base would include a working farm; a weather center; an education center; and 100000 square feet of retail and entertainment space. Visitors would ride to the top of the tornado in an elevator that would use virtual reality to simulate the twister from “The Wizard of z. ” At the top they would find an observation deck a restaurant and a banquet hall. Before the state will give final approval to the sales tax revenue bonds Kelly wrote the city must confirm that the developer will finance the tower and the city will own it and all other structures paid for with the bonds. In addition the city must show that the bonds will be used only for costs in the development district and require the developers to finance at least 25 percent of the project with private equity. verby who serves as project manager for Kansas Landmark Tower LLC said that to date the project has $22 million in equity and that the development team hoped to use industrial revenue bonds issued by the city to finance the rest of the project.
