Kilby Inmates Raise $1000 for Enterprise Tornado Relief

(AP) – Inmates at the Kilby Correctional Facility wanted to do something to help families in Enterprise recover from a March First tornado that killed nine people including eight high school students. More than 300 inmates contributed with the largest donation being 50 dollars. Inmates across the state raised more than 500 dollars for Hurricane Katrina relief in September 2005 and about eleven-hundred dollars of that came from Kilby inmates. Department of Corrections spokesman Brian Corbett said Kilby inmates aren’t able to earn income but can receive money from up to eight relatives. Some inmates cleared out their accounts giving as little as six cents or a quarter for the tornado project. (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press.
