com SARASTA CUNTY — Rose Holloway and Ken Carrel spent Tuesday cleaning up piles of pink fluff after a powerful storm blew off the roof of their mobile home on Christmas Day. Pieces of the roof and insulation were carried up to 150 yards away from the couple’s Tri-Par Estates mobile home located off DeSoto Road. Powerful storms that swept through on Christmas prompted tornado warnings all over the state. In Sarasota County it appears Tri-Par took the worst hit. Two mobile homes and a carport were heavily damaged in the 55-and-older community.

Jeb Bush late Tuesday declared a state of emergency in Columbia Pasco Lake and Volusia counties which were hardest hit by the storm. ne confirmed tornado hit Daytona Beach where high winds tore portions of the roof from three apartment buildings. The city reported that 20 police vehicles were destroyed. The wind also hurled an airplane through a building wall at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University causing a fire. About 50 other planes at the university were also damaged by winds that snapped off their wings and caused them to overturn.

us Digg This Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist is warning residents of counties that sustained severe weather on Christmas Day to look out for unscrupulous business operators who may try to take advantage of them during cleanup. The attorney general's announcement comes after Gov. Jeb Bush declared a state of emergency in Pasco Lake Volusia and Columbia counties which were hit by tornadoes that caused significant damage to dozens of homes and businesses and disrupted electrical service to hundreds of other homes and businesses. "Florida's recent history with hurricanes has shown us that scam artists can crawl out of the woodwork in hopes of preying on those who suffered damage" Crist said in a release. "Citizens should be cautious to make sure they don't fall victim to price gougers.

WESH 2 News reported. A number of apartments were destroyed by an F2 tornado that touched down in the apartment complex on Nova Road. Walls are gone and belongings have been thrown everywhere. ther apartments suffered only minor damage… The tornado did a lot of physical damage but as people picked through what was left of their material things it was clear that this storm has left emotional scars. Mike Ryan said he and his wife were in New York visiting relatives. “I heard about it Christmas Day and I got down here as quick as I could” he said. “When I first saw it I was shaking life a leaf. Even when I was coming down the street Nova yesterday with the backup I was shaking in my car because it’s pretty sad.
