A spokesperson for the Met ffice said it was too early to confirm whether it was a tornado that had hit the village. A spokesperson said: “It’s very difficult to tell at this stage – we really need to see the impact in the daylight. “It often leaves a trail mark if it is a tornado. It’s certainly a possibility. But John Mason a member of Tornado and Storm Research rganisation which investigates tornadoes and extreme weather in the UK said it was “quite a significant tornado”. “Although I haven’t finished my investigation yet I think it was about a force three tornado. That’s one less than the tornado that hit Birmingham last year which was a force four to five ” said Mr Mason from Machynlleth.

Hurricane is the closest bestchoice for cross-country skiing snowshoeing and snow play in our neckof the woods. The road to Paradise at Mount Rainier National Park is closed byflood damage and a bridge washout has cut off access to three MountTahoma Trail Association huts. That makes Hurricane 17 miles south ofPort Angeles the best bet for winter fun. The snow play areas and backcountry routes at Hurricane are coveredwith at least 4 feet of snow with more of the white stuff on the way. Weather permitting the road from Port Angeles to Hurricane ridge isscheduled to be open every Friday through Sunday according to BarbMaynes lympic National Park spokeswoman.
