That is until the start of the next tropical run. Ernesto was a big bust in Florida. Froth levels reached an all time high as a potential hurricane bore down on the Florida Keys. But the storm never recovered from the energy it spent over the Dominican Republic and Cuba — leaving Florida with next to nothing. Senor Ernesto did however gain some strength after leaving the Florida coast. In fact this storm almost made it back to hurricane strength just before its landfall near Wrightsville Beach NC and then taking a northward track through the interior US. Normally this would zap any remaining swell potential… But the storm never recovered from the energy it spent over the Dominican Republic and Cuba — leaving Florida with next to nothing. Senor Ernesto did however gain some strength after leaving the Florida coast. In fact this storm almost made it back to hurricane strength just before its landfall near Wrightsville Beach NC and then taking a northward track through the interior US. Normally this would zap any remaining swell potential. But this was no normal situation. Ernesto joined forces with a strong blocking high pressure over Canada to produce solid windswell in the North East. A cold front pushed through to clean up the surf and spots in areas such as NJ reaped the rewards with.
