At 2100 GMT Isaac had top sustained winds near 80 mph (129 kph) up from 75 mph (120 kph) on Saturday when it became the fifth hurricane of the Atlantic season the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. The ninth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season was centered about 800 miles (1287 kilometers) south-southwest of Cape Race Newfoundland forecasters said. Isaac was moving north near 21 mph (33. 8 kph) and a turn to the north-northeast was expected in the next day. The storm also was forecast to speed up and begin weakening in the next 24 hours. Meteorologist Daniel Brown said southeastern Newfoundland could begin experiencing tropical storm conditions with winds gusting near hurricane strength beginning Monday afternoon… Brown said Isaac was not as big or strong as Florence whose remnants brought 100 mph wind gusts and bands of rain to southern Newfoundland on Sept. Hurricane-force winds extend 25 miles (40 kilometers) from Isaac’s center while tropical storm-force winds extend up to 145 miles (233 kilometers) from it. Andre Fabre fields three of the eight runners – Shirocco Rail Link and Hurricane Run as he bids to collect this prize for the sixth time. The former has been promoted to favourite having won all three of his starts this term. Formerly trained in Germany he was fourth behind Hurricane Run in last year’s Arc and went on to take the Breeders Cup Turf at Belmont Park in New York. So far this summer he has won the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket the Coronation Cup at Epsom and the Prix Foy at Longchamp. He beat Hurricane Run by a neck on that occasion but it was a steady pace and I reckon the “Hurricane” can take his revenge. His win in last year’s Arc was most impressive having earlier taken both the French and Irish Derbies. He has won two of his four starts this year including the King George V1 Stakes at Ascot in July… Formerly trained in Germany he was fourth behind Hurricane Run in last year’s Arc and went on to take the Breeders Cup Turf at Belmont Park in New York. His win in last year’s Arc was most impressive having earlier taken both the French and Irish Derbies. He has won two of his four starts this year including the King George V1 Stakes at Ascot in July. At times he has appeared to lose concentration and it could be that he is becoming “coltish” so I reckon this will be his swansong before retiring to Coolmore where he will undoubtedly become a top stallion. They won’t be dawdling along tomorrow and a stronger pace will suit him whereas Fabre has already explained that Shirocco will used the Arc as a spring board for other major events like the Breeders Cup again and big races in the Far East as the year draws to a close.
