‘Nature’: Agency blocked hurricane report

The National ceanic and Atmospheric Administration disputed the Nature article saying there was not a report but a two-page fact sheet about the topic. The information was to be included in a press kit to be distributed in May as the annual hurricane season approached but wasn’t ready. “The document wasn’t done in time for the rollout” NAA spokesman Jordan St. John said in responding to the Nature article. “The White House never saw it so they didn’t block it. The possibility that warming conditions may cause storms to become stronger has generated debate among climate and weather experts particularly in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

They now expect 12 to 15 named storms with seven to nine gaining hurricane status. f those they said three or four would strengthen to be major hurricanes. But why is this hurricane season so different from last year’s record-breaking season? In 2005 there were 28 tropical storms of which 15 became hurricanes. Seven strengthened into major hurricanes. Halifax wants ttawa to reforest park devastated by hurricane

29 2003 hurricane Juan moved north through the middle of Nova Scotia killing two people smashing buildings and leaving about 300000 homes and businesses without power. In Halifax the storm knocked down nearly 75 per cent of the trees in Point Pleasant Park a 186-acre site that attracts more than one million visitors a year. Peter Bigelow the manager of property planning with the Halifax Regional Municipality said on Wednesday that the city has a reconstruction plan ? but hasn’t been able to get ttawa’s help because the federal disaster relief assistance program doesn’t cover reforestation. “What it says precisely says is that the federal government will assist with cleanup and restoration of parks” said Bigelow. “[But] it also says the federal government is not able to assist with reforestation.

This time it was after an equally unpredictable but much more bizarre accident. n March 31 a tornado at his home in Grass Lake had reached down from the sky lifted Kyle and threw him 85 feet in the air. The story of “Tornado Boy” as he was dubbed in the newspapers and then at school was a shocking one. Not only had a tornado touched down in Michigan but it had actually struck a person. More amazing that 12-year-old boy actually survived to tell the tale.
